Jesus 365 - December

December 1

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. As the father has loved me, so I have loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.          J15:5-11  d

December 2

My command is this: Love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.           J15:12-14  d

December 3

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.          J15:15  d

December 4

You did not choose me, but I chose you to go and bear fruit - fruit that will last. Then the father will give you whatever you ask in my name.          J15:16  d

December 5

This is my command: Love each other.          J15:17  d

December 6

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates me hates my Father as well. If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfil what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.'           J15:18-25 (Psalm 35:19 / 69:4)  d

December 7

When the Counsellor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, he will testify about me  but you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. All this I have told you so that you will not go astray.           J15:26-27 & 16:1  d

December 8

They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you.          J16:2-4  d

December 9

I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the counsellor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgement: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgement, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.          J16:7-15  d

December 10

In a little while you will see me no more and then after a little while you will see me. I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you; now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.          J16:19-24  d

December 11

Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but tell you plainly about my Father. In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.          J16:25-28  d

December 12

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.          J16:33  d

December 13

Get up, watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing but the body is weak.          Mt26:41 / Mk14:38 / L22:46  d

December 14

All who draw the sword will die by the sword.          Mt26:52

December 15

This has taken place that all the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.          Mt26:56

December 16

I have spoken openly to the world.          J18:20

December 17

In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One, the mighty God, and coming on the clouds of heaven.                                     Mt26:64 / Mk14:62 / L22:69

December 18

My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.          J18:36

December 19

You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this reason I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.          J18:37

December 20

Do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say, 'Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!' Then they will say to the mountains, 'Fall on us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us!' For if men do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?           L23:28-31 (Hosea 10:8)

December 21

I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.          L23:42

December 22

It is finished.          J19:30

December 23

I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.          J20:17  d

December 24

Do not be afraid.          Mt28:10

December 25

Peace be with you. Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. Receive the Holy Spirit.          L24:36 / J20:19,21 & 22  d

December 26

Peace be with you! Stop doubting and believe. Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. J20:26,27&29  d

December 27

Do you truly love me more than these? Feed my lambs. Do you love me? Take care of my sheep. Do you love me? Feed my sheep. I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go. Follow me! You must follow me.          J21:15...22

December 28

Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.          Mk16:15-18  d

December 29

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.            Mt28:18-20  d

December 30

This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.          L24:46-49  d

December 31

It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses... to the ends of the earth.          Acts1:7-8  d
